Original Pho Recipe

This delicious Pho recipe is an original created by a friend of ours. Enjoy!

Pho Ingredients

  • ox tail (beef or chicken can be substituted)
  • 1-2 onions
  • green onion
  • fresh cilantro
  • 1 large radish
  • garlic
  • bean sprouts
  • Thai basil
  • lime
  • hot sauce
  • oyster sauce
  • fish sauce
  • 5-6 aniseeds
  • rice noodles
  • Pho Hoa Pasteur spice package
  • salt

Preparing the Vietnamese Soup

In a large pot, make broth by boiling meat for at least 4 hours. We recommend ox tail, although beef or chicken could be substituted. Include 1 or 2 roasted onion (bake whole at high temperature in oven until eggs are browned, then slice in half or quarters before putting in broth). Add 1 large radish, thickly sliced, fish sauce, salt, and 5-6 aniseeds. Finally add a Pho Hoa Pasteur spice package found at most Asian grocery stores. The longer this mixture boils, then simmers, the better!

Preparing the Noodles and Fresh Ingredients

Boil Rice Noodles till soft and drain. Set aside. Ahead of time prepare fresh, chopped garlic by frying in hot oil until golden brown. Chop green onion, and cilantro. Soak bean sprouts, cut lime quarters.

Preparing to Serve the Pho

Place noodles and fresh ingredients into large serving bowl. Top with meat slices and broth. Season with hot sauce, oyster sauce, and lime squeezes and Thai basil. Eat with chopsticks and large spoon. Enjoy the Pho!
